BOREAS Scanning Lidar Imager of Canopies by Echo Recovery (SLICER): Level-3 Data 7.3 Data Characteristics 7.3.1 Parameter/Variable The parameters contained in the SLICER inventory files are: Column Name ------------------------------ SPATIAL_COVERAGE DATE_OBS START_TIME END_TIME RUN_START_LAT RUN_START_LONG RUN_END_LAT RUN_END_LONG NUM_SHOTS CRTFCN_CODE 7.3.2 Variable Description/Definition The descriptions of the parameters contained in the SLICER inventory files are: Column Name Description -------------------- ----------------------------------------------- SPATIAL_COVERAGE The general term used to denote the spatial area over which the data were collected. DATE_OBS The date on which the data were collected. START_TIME The starting GPS time for the data collected (see Section 11.3 for GPS to GMT difference). END_TIME The ending GPS Time for the data collected (see Section 11.3 for GPS to GMT difference). RUN_START_LAT The WGS84 latitude coordinate at the beginning of the data line. RUN_START_LONG The WGS84 longitude coordinate at the beginning of the data line. RUN_END_LAT The WGS84 latitude coordinate at the end of the data line. RUN_END_LONG The WGS84 longitude coordinate at the end of the data line. NUM_SHOTS The number of laser pulses for the data line. CRTFCN_CODE The BOREAS certification level of the data. Examples are CPI (Checked by PI), CGR (Certified by Group), PRE (Preliminary), and CPI-??? (CPI but questionable). 7.3.3 Unit of Measurement The measurement units for the parameters contained in the SLICER inventory files are: Column Name Units ----------------------- ----------------- SPATIAL_COVERAGE [none] DATE_OBS [DD-MON-YYYY] START_TIME [HHMM GMT] END_TIME [HHMM GMT] RUN_START_LAT [decimal degrees] RUN_START_LONG [decimal degrees] RUN_END_LAT [decimal degrees] RUN_END_LONG [decimal degrees] NUM_SHOTS [count] CRTFCN_CODE [none] 7.3.4 Data Source Other than the CRTFCN_CODE parameter, the source of the parameters contained in the SLICER inventory files on the BOREAS CD-ROM is the SLICER CD-ROMs supplied by the LAPF. The CRTFCN_CODE was assigned by the BOREAS Information System (BORIS). 7.3.5 Data Range The following table gives information about the parameter values in the SLICER inventory files: Minimum Maximum Missng Unrel Below Data Data Data Data Data Detect Not Column Name Value Value Value Value Limit Cllctd ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPATIAL_COVERAGE N/A N/A None None None None DATE_OBS 18-JUL-1996 30-JUL-1996 None None None None START_TIME 1533 2153 None None None None END_TIME 1541 2228 None None None None RUN_START_LAT 53.07728 56.22971 None None None None RUN_START_LONG -106.56928 -98.01645 None None None None RUN_END_LAT 53.10713 56.06671 None None None None RUN_END_LONG -106.31541 -98.15718 None None None None NUM_SHOTS 1001 49992 None None None None CRTFCN_CODE CPI CPI None None None None ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minimum Data Value -- The minimum value found in the column. Maximum Data Value -- The maximum value found in the column. Missing Data Value -- The value that indicates missing data. This is used to indicate that an attempt was made to determine the parameter value, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Unrel Data Value -- The value that indicates unreliable data. This is used to indicate an attempt was made to determine the parameter value, but the value was deemed to be unreliable by the analysis personnel. Below Detect Limit -- The value that indicates parameter values below the instruments detection limits. This is used to indicate that an attempt was made to determine the parameter value, but the analysis personnel determined that the parameter value was below the detection limit of the instrumentation. Data Not Cllctd -- This value indicates that no attempt was made to determine the parameter value. This usually indicates that BORIS combined several similar but not identical data sets into the same data base table but this particular science team did not measure that parameter. Blank -- Indicates that blank spaces are used to denote that type of value. N/A -- Indicates that the value is not applicable to the respective column. None -- Indicates that no values of that sort were found in the column. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.4 Sample Data Record SPATIAL_COVERAGE,DATE_OBS,START_TIME,END_TIME,RUN_START_LAT,RUN_START_LONG, RUN_END_LAT,RUN_END_LONG,NUM_SHOTS,CRTFCN_CODE 'NSA',18-JUL-1996,1641,1649,56.05955,-98.99594,55.71156,-98.36916,38212,'CPI' 'NSA-9OA',18-JUL-1996,1645,1645,55.8914,-98.68932,55.88315,-98.66705,1001,'CPI'
