BOREAS and Boreal Forest Informational CD-ROM’s Summary: The Canadian Secretariat and personnel from the Canada Center for Remote Sensing (CCRS) and Parks Canada created two CD-ROM’s that contain information about the BOReal Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study (BOREAS) and the boreal forest in general. At the time of release in early 1995, the Compact Disk-Read Only Media (CD-ROM) about BOREAS was available for both Intel-based and Macintosh personal computers (PC). The CD-ROM contains background information about the boreal forest and the BOREAS activities. Information on the CD-ROM is organized into various categories and is presented through audio dialogue and series of still pictures. Since the interface program was designed for a touch screen system, the cursor may not appear at start-up, but the mouse is still active. Once the program or screen saver is running, drive the "invisible" cursor to the top of the screen and then click. The cursor hand should appear and allow you to make the desired selections. If at any time the cursor disappears, it can be restored in the same manner. The CD-ROM about the boreal forest was produced for Intel-based PC’s running Microsoft Windows 3.1. Many of the individual QuickTime and text files can be read and viewed with software on Macintosh systems, but to see the overall publication and get the full perspective of the information, an Intel-based PC is required. The BOREAS Information System (BORIS) personnel logged the CD-ROM’s and briefly reviewed their contents. The BORIS identifier for the CD-ROM and descriptive information known to BORIS staff are: CDRBOR001-3 INTERACTIVE CD ROM ON THE BOREAS PROJECT. MAC VERSION.
